“I’m excited to participate again this year in Oakland Veg Week—in fact, I’ve been meat-free for four weeks now. This is an important issue not just for our bodies, but for our communities. Oakland Veg Week is a great way to kick off a meat-free diet, but it’s easy to make it more than a week, and I’m proof of that.” Barbara Lee, US Congresswoman
Michael Colbruno, Past Chair, Oakland Planning Commission
“Becoming a vegan 13 years ago changed my life for the better. My health has never been better and I have endless energy. It’s also allowed me to appreciate the beautiful lives of the animals, all of whom have souls, feelings and personalities. Moreover, it’s opened my eyes to the enormous environmental impact it takes to raise cattle and other livestock. Eating healthy is good for you, good for your planet and good for the animals. Support your local vegetarian restaurant and learn to live a more thoughtful and healthier life.” —Michael Colbruno, Past Chair, Oakland Planning Commission; Animal Lover
Richard Raya, Executive Director, Youth Radio
Abel Guillén, Vice President, Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees
“I’m proud to endorse Oakland Veg Week and encourage Oakland residents to take the veg pledge for your health, for the environment, and for the animals. It’s a great opportunity to support participating local restaurants and to learn more about the benefits of a plant-based diet.” —Abel Guillén, Vice President, Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees
